Culturally Responsive Built Environments

Welcome to the course Culturally Responsive
Built Environments. Dear students, I am Dr. Ram Sateesh Pasupuleti,
Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture and Planning, IIT Roorkee. I am offering an online certification course,
title Culturally Responsive Built Environments under NPTEL run by MHRD. To describe briefly about my work and my journey
and how I have framed this course, so there are few lines I have drafted. And this talks about my vision and my philosophy,
I am a qualified architect I look beyond the building, a place and its people. I studied from architecture without architects
to housing without houses, from a powerful change towards a small change following an
earthquake and sunami. I have thought and thought how to understand
place and space, from framing places to new city spaces, decoding the realities from power
to creep. In tropical, Mediterranean architect and temperate
learning cultures, my journey have crossed many seas at many skies to conquer. I am in a search, a holistic search for a
pedagogic shift focusing on culturally responsive built environment to democratic learning environments. After all I am a researcher and a teacher
who tries to show a way to build better practices. The objective of this course is to introduce
cultural discourse and built environment. Theory, research, practice and education. To build the foundation and reorient the students
to understand the relevance and scope of culture, in shaping culturally responsive built environments. And to familiarize students with the various
interdisciplinary documentation and research methods for bringing different scales of built
environment under one umbrella of culture through the determinants of scientific, historical,
ecological, technological and the political dimension of the subject of culturally responsive
built environments. And this course is suitable for UG, PG and
PhD students of architecture and built environments studies for their academic programs. The course will be also useful for practicing
built environment professionals and early career researchers working in cultural context,
conservation, humanitarian and development sectors. There is no prerequisite for this course. The duration of the course is 8 weeks, which
