Huge Storm Pummels Bay Area With High Winds And Heavy Rain

THIS IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST STORMS OF THE SEASON. OUR PHOTOGRAPHER JIM FLANAGAN SENT US THIS VIDEO IN SAN JOSE OF THE RAIN COMING DOWN JUST HOURS AGO.. NOT MANY DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.. BUT THERE IS A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE ENTIRE BAY AREA.. JULIE – FIRST WEATHER K-P-I-X FIVE REPORTER KATIE NIELSEN IS LIVE THIS MORNING AT THE MARIN HEADLANDS. KATIE? The rain is starting to taper off, but one thing that’s constant is the winds. We are under a high wind warning… that’s set to expire at 10-o’clock this morning. Some parts of the Bay Area saw wind gusts overnight up to 50 and 60 miles per hour. Just about an hour ago PG&E reported a fairly large power outage near Santa Cruz that’s impacting about 6-thousand people. Crews are on the way to try to make necessary repairs. So far, no word on what caused the outage, but fair to say wind was probably a factor. Up near the Russian River, trees and power lines came down overnight on Bohemian Highway in Monte Rio – knocking out power to about 500 people. The Monte Rio fire department cut up part of the tree to allow TOUCHED DOWN… AND WINDS AND HEAVY RAINS PICKED UP OVERNIGHT. MULTIPLE HAZARD WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT.. AND CHANCES FOR A THUNDERSTORM ARE INCREASING. IN PACIFICA — THE COASTAL SWELLS ARE GROWING. WITH AT LEAST A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN EXPECTED.. LOCALS ARE GAUGING THE STORM’S IMPACT BY HOW *HIGH THE WAVES BREAK… ALONG THE PIER AND SEAWALL. “i seen em break over here lots of times. ive watched stupid people. we’d almost have a little betting pool over who was going to get nailed by the waves or not…” AS THE STORM SYSTEM ROLLS IN — A BUOY 20-MILES OFF THE COAST OF THE PENINSULA.. IS RECORDING WIND SPEEDS OF 40-MILES PER HOUR. AND SNOW IS GONNA DUMP ON THE SIERRA OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS.. THE ROADS WERE PRETTY CLEAR IN NYACK LAST NIGHT.. BUT THAT’S EXPECTED TO CHANGE.
