LMS Environmental Sciences Academy students talk about climate change for Earth Day

Studios this is a Kady Anna’s News Channel at 6:00 good evening everyone on Sunday events will be held across the world in honor of Earth Day the holiday brings awareness to environmental issues shared by everyone Josh money has more on how the conversation is being continued with younger generations in our top story my sixth graders when I first bring up the subject it I can tell us it’s mostly how their family feels is as opposed to its being individuals but by the time they’re in eighth grade they they have their own opinions on it David Kent uses his role as an environmental science teacher to start conversations about climate change and potential impacts one example hurricanes some experts believe climate change leads to fewer but more powerful storms and so we go over hurricane preparedness let them know the best thing to do is evacuate the area and then we monitor we plot coordinates Kent first introduces the theory of climate change through scientific mechanisms then he makes it relatable to the students by talking about climate events that they’ve lived through two years ago in 2016 we had a massive flood in Youngsville where I live and a bunch of houses God destroyed the floors got ruined they all got flooded and we had a lot of a lot of damage to recover alton believes climate change may have played a role because of the carbon dioxide clouds in the atmosphere the water is evaporating twice as fast as usual which is filling the ring the clouds with more water vapor faster than they should so that’s giving us a lot more rain than normal one student is taking lessons learned from Kent’s class to help her family reduce their carbon footprint sometimes never my mom Shayne’s her hair and like she keeps it plugged in even when she’s not using it I have to unplug her unplug it and their minds her every day like stop doing it cuz it takes up too much electricity and how every individual can make a difference when I get older hey I’m gonna do like my whole house all I’m gonna have is like solar panels everywhere I’m gonna have like lunar panels too like a night in Lafayette Josh many Katie see TV three and Lafayette middle school will be celebrating Earth Day with the community on Saturday May 5th they are inviting the public to come participate at their campus on University Avenue from 12:00 until 4:00 and if you’re doing some spring cleaning this weekend you can stay green by donating any unwanted clothing vermilion ville is accepting items for it’s Earth Day clothes swap Sunday anyone can bring in clothing or take some home with you whatever is leftover will be donated to charity
