Route 28 Flooded By Heavy Rain

TWO MORE INCHES AT THE AIRPORT, AND AN ADDITIONAL INCH POSSIBLE WITH A LOT OF LATE LIGHTNING TONIGHT. ONE OF THE BUSIEST ROADS SEEING FLOODING IS ROUTE 28. IF FLOODED IN THE SAME SPOT AS IT DID IN MAY. PAUL MARTINEZ HAS THE LATEST FOR US THIS AFTERNOON. Reporter: AN UNBELIEVABLE SCENE HERE. ROUTE 28 INBOUND BETWEEN THE 31st AND 40th STREET BRIDGES. IT’S A LITERAL BATHTUB. THE INBOUND LANES, FULL OF WATER, MUD AND DEBRIS. PENNDOT WORKERS ARE IN THE DISTANCE, TRYING TO UNCLOG THE DRAINS HERE THAT ARE FULL OF MUD AND DEBRIS. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THIS WATER HAS RECEDED. AT ONE POINT, THE WATER WAS OVERFLOWING THE BARRIERS. WHAT’S CAUSING THIS? HEAVY RAIN IS FLOWING FROM NEARBY TROY HILL DOWN ONTO ROUTE 28. AS YOU MENTIONED, THIS HAPPENED IN MAY. IT’S HIGHLY UNUSUAL. IT RARELY FLOODS HERE, BUT NOW IT HAS TWICE IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS. AS WE GO SOUTHBOUND, TOWARDS THE 40th STREET BRIDGE, TRAFFIC IS BACKED UP. THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY CLOSED THE INBOUND LANES. THEY ARE LITERALLY TRYING TO BACK THESE CARS OUT OF THE AREA. IT IS REALLY BACKED UP. WHAT A MESS.
