The Impact Of Noise Pollution On Your Health

WHAT TYPE OF IMPACT DOES
UNWANTED NOISE HAVE ON YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING? THIS IS AN INTERESTING QUESTION
THAT WAS RECENTLY BROUGHT UP IN A PRETTY COMPREHENSIVE
PIECE DONE BY MOTHER JONES AND WHAT THEY REALIZED WAS AS
THE POPULATION IN THE UNITED STATES INCREASES, THE
AMOUNT OF UNWANTED NOISE OF COURSE IS ALSO GOING TO
INCREASE. IN FACT JUST TO GIVE YOU SOME
NUMBERS, UNWANTED SOUND DOUBLES EVERY 30 YEARS. IF THAT DOESN’T SOUND CRAZY TO
YOU, ROAD TRAFFIC IN THE UNITED STATES HAS TRIPLED OVER
THE LAST 30 YEARS. BY 2032, THE NUMBER OF PASSENGER
FLIGHTS IS EXPECTED TO BE NUMBER – 2011 FIGURE. AT HOURS, PLANES OR EVEN AUDIBLE
OVERHEAD 70% OF THE TIME IN THE REMOTE BACKCOUNTRY OF GO CITY
NATIONAL PARK. YOU CAN EVEN ESCAPE THE NOISE
ANYMORE EVEN IF YOU GO TO REMOTE PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. UNWANTED NOISE IS ANNOYING, BUT
OTHER THAN BE ANNOYING TO REALLY HAVE ANY REAL
RAMIFICATIONS ON HER HEALTH? THERE BEEN A NUMBER OF STUDIES
AND YES IT DOES. BEFORE I GET INTO THE DETAILS,
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. TWO THINGS ABOUT THIS. THAT IS AN AMAZING STAT THAT
TRAFFIC HAS TRIPLED OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS. 3 TIMES AS MANY CARS ON THE
ROAD. THAT AIN’T NO SMALL THING. MORE TO THE POINT OF THE STORY,
I LOVE THIS STORY BECAUSE WHAT THEY CALL NOISE POLLUTION,
IT FEELS LIKE A GOOFY TERM, NOISE POLLUTION BUT I HATED THAT
I CAN’T STAND IT. I THINK LEAF BLOWERS OF THE
SCOURGE OF THE EARTH. WE SPENT SO MUCH ENERGY AND
SCREED SO MUCH NOISE TO TAKE LEAVES AND BLOW THEM FROM ONE
PART OF THE PLACE TO THE OTHER PART AND FOR EVERYBODY, NONSTOP
FROM EIGHT IN THE MORNING AT LEAST UNTIL NIGHTTIME. EVERYWHERE YOU GO. AND IF IT IS NOT A LEAF BLOWER,
IT’S A LAWNMOWER. I GET IT. OR SOMETHING ELSE. THERE’S ALWAYS SOMETHING
CONSTANTLY. CONSTRUCTION, PLANES, CARS,
AMBULANCE. IT’S ESPECIALLY WORSE IF YOU
LIVE IN THE CITY WHICH I DO. HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON THE AMOUNT
OF TIME YOU SLEEP TO WHICH I PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED. I NEVER REALLY PUT THOSE TWO
TOGETHER. I GUESS IT’S COMMON SENSE. AS SOON AS I MOVE FROM THE
SUBURBS TO THE CITY I WENT FROM SLEEPING SEVEN OR EIGHT
HOURS A NIGHT TO NOW I’M LUCKY IF I GET 5. IT’S JUST HOW MY BODY IS NOW. THIS IS LA WHICH IS KIND OF
LIKE A BIG SUBURB. IN NEW YORK IS ATROCIOUS. I COULDN’T LIVE THERE. THE FIRE ENGINES, AND I LIVED
THERE FOR THREE YEARS AND THERE IS A LOT I LOVE ABOUT NEW
YORK A MAN AS A GROWN MAN, IT IS HARD TO DEAL WITH ALL OF
THAT NONSTOP NOISE AND AS IT TURNS OUT OF COURSE, WE ARE
NOT BILL FOR THAT. WE AREN’T. LET ME GIVE YOU THE DETAILS ON
WHAT STUDIES INDICATE IN THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 20 INTO THE IMPACTS ON UNWANTED
NOISE UNDER HEALTH. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BOOST YOUR
HEART RATE, YOU BREATHE LESS DEEPLY AND IT ALSO RELEASES THE
FIGHT OR FLIGHT HORMONES. LIKE CORTISOL. IT IS TERRIBLE. HAS ALL KINDS OF NEGATIVE
AFFECTS ON YOUR BODY ONCE YOU START RELEASING TOO MUCH OF
IT. YOU OVEREAT, YOU JUST FEEL
STRESSED OUT. LET ME OVERSIMPLIFY HERE. IT’S BASICALLY OUR OLDEST
INSTINCTS. WHEN YOU HEAR A LION OR AIR
ROLLER, YOU HAVE TO GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. WE ARE PROGRAMMED TO WHEN WE
HEAR A LOUD NOISE FOR STRESS TO GO THROUGH THE ROOF BECAUSE IN
THE PAST THAT SAVED OUR LIVES. YOU HEAR IT, YOU’VE GOT GO OR
YOU ARE MEET, LITERALLY. NOW IT’S GETTING TRIGGERED
NONSTOP WHEN THERE IS ACTUALLY NOTHING TO RUN FROM
AND YOU CAN’T RUN FROM IT BECAUSE IT SURROUNDS UTAH FLORENCE WILLIAMS IS THE
PERSON WHO WROTE THE MOTHER JONES PIECE AND SO FLORENCE
ACTUALLY WENT TO A RESEARCH THAT FOCUSES PRIMARILY ON THIS AND
FOUND SOME INTERESTING THINGS. SHE WAS PART OF ONE OF THE
STUDIES. TO SEE HOW DIFFERENT TYPES OF
SOUND AFFECT MY ABILITY TO RECOVER FROM LIFE’S ORDINARY
STRESSES, SMITH FIRST HAD TO STRESS ME OUT: KEUKA PUBLIC
SPEAKING. HE ASKED ME TO DELIVER A SHORT
EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH IN FRONT OF A LARGE MEMBER BEHIND
WHICH SMITH TOLD THE SAD PANEL OF JUDGES. SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE FIVE
MINUTE SPEECH, A LAB TECHNICIAN INTERRUPTED AND TOLD
ME TO SPEAK UP. OF COURSE, THAT IS GOING TO BE A
STRESSFUL SITUATION BECAUSE IT IS AN UNWANTED NOISE. YOU ARE TRYING TO GIVE A SPEECH
AND SOMEONE IS INTERRUPTING YOU REPEATEDLY. THEY KEEP TELLING YOU PEOPLE
ARE WATCHING BUT EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW THEY AREN’T, IT STRESSES YOU
OUT THAT. IT WOULDN’T WORK ON ME. TYTNETWORK.COM/GO. YOUR FIVE MINUTES ARE UP, LET’S WRAP
IT UP. THE REPORTER HERE IS ATTACHED
ALL SORTS OF TECHNOLOGY THAT MONITOR VARIOUS LEVELS OF THINGS
ARE HAPPENING TO HER BODY. SHE FOUND HER HEART RATE
CLIMBED FROM THE MID 60S TO THE MID-90S, HER CORTISOL, AN
IMPERFECT BUT SUGGESTIVE MARKER OF STRESS, ALMOST DOUBLED. ISN’T THAT INSANE? ANOTHER STUDY EXAMINED HOW THE
OPENING OF A NEW AIRPORT IN MUNICH AFFECTED NEARBY CHILDREN. IN 18 MONTHS AFTER FLIGHTS COMMENCED
THE RESEARCHERS OBSERVED SOARING LEVELS OF STRESS
HORMONES IN THEIR SUBJECTS. BEAR WITH ME HERE. THE CHILDREN’S EPINEPHRINE
LEVELS ROSE 49%, THAT IS ADRENALINE, THEIR NOREPINEPHRINE
MORE THAN DOUBLED, THAT HAS TO DO WITH ALERTNESS AND BEING
AWAKE, AND THEIR SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE ON AVERAGE WENT
UP FIVE POINTS. WE ARE UNDER ATTACK. DUDE. BY NOISE. WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT STRESS
FROM WORK OR FAMILY ARE PLAYING THE BILLS. STRESS FROM THE NOISE THAT WE
ARE ATTACKED WITH ON A DAILY BASIS. IT’S INCREDIBLE. YOU CAN
ACTUALLY UNDO SOME OF THE DAMAGE BY LISTENING TO THINGS THAT ARE
MORE SERENE LIKE BIRDS CHIRPING OR SOUNDS OF NATURE. BUT IT’S A BIG PROBLEM. THE
ONE THING I CAN’T STAND AT WORK IS LET’S SAY THAT I’M
HAVING A MEETING HAS? YEAH LIKE WHEN I’M TRYING TO READ AND
HE’S TALKING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS. WE ARE HAVING A MEETING AT
TWO PEOPLE ARE TALKING AT THE SAME TIME. THAT IS LITERALLY THE HARDEST
THING FOR ME TO DEAL WITH. I CAN’T HANDLE IT. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE
TALKING ABOUT. BECAUSE WE ARE NOT PROGRAMMED
FOR IT. IF I WERE TO RUN FOR
PRESIDENT, I WOULD WIN IN A LANDSLIDE WITH ONE SIMPLE
PROMISE. I WILL BAN LEAF BLOWERS. THEY’RE ILLEGAL. YOU KNOW HOW MANY VOTES I WOULD
GET? THE RAKE IS AWESOME BY THE
WAY. SAID THE PERSON WHO DOESN’T
HAVE TO THE RAKING. I GET IT, BUT STILL. I CAN’T HAVE IT. LEAF BLOWERS, GONE. YOU KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO
HAPPEN BEFORE I WIN? EVERYBODY IS GOING TO PANIC AND
BUY LEAF BLOWERS FOR CHRISTMAS. BEFORE THEY’RE BANNED. SALES WILL TRIPLE. WHAT IF THERE IS A LEAF BLOWING
LOBBY AND THEY COME AFTER YOU? THEY WILL BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I
WILL DO? I WILL BLOW THEM AWAY.

  • I work night shift… noise pollution is my enemy! @[email protected]

  • What is going on between Hassan and Ana, this is the second time Ana has slighted him in the last few videos.

  • "leaf blowers are the scourge of the earth."
don't I know it. I have sensory sensitivity from my chronic illness. And it's like Misophonia. Certain noise, repetitive sounds, high pitch, yelling, chewing, etc. can become painful. I have a few pairs of noise blocking earmuffs. It's horrible, to not be able to go where I want to go and do the things I want to do.
It's a constant state of stress, because all my senses are bombarded, on top of chronic pain.
Noise pollution really is relevant in our society.

  • oh thats why i get sick every time i hear ana .

  • That's why I was willing to pay the money for Bluetooth noise canceling headphones.

  • What about the useless beepers on trucks (and even some vans now!) when backing up?They can be heard all day in any urban environment.

  • my life got better since i picked up my bose quietcomfort hp

  • Another reason why I loved Germany. They have quiet hours daily starting at 9 I think if not 10, and no grass cutting or any type of noise on Sunday

  • Haha loved that Alex Jones 'we're under attack'

  • When you live in the city – New York, London, Tokyo – you become streamlined to ignore (physically ignore signs of noticing) any unexpected noise, altercation, alarm. You're basically spotted as the tourist if you look around in surprise. It is the most unnatural way of living. To me, resisting the instinct to look takes more energy than it does to glance over. :/

  • You know what gets on my nerves? These MORONS who drive down the street with their expensive car stereos & big subwoofers that pump out so much bass you can hear it five blocks away. I really wish local governments would crack down on this, I can feel my blood pressure shoot up whenever I hear it and there isn't any escape from it, even in a closed up house with AC on you can hear it and feel it. Another thing is LOUD exhaust systems on cars, trucks and motorcycles. I thought a muffler was supposed to suppress engine exhaust noise.

  • Are you kidding me? This an actual issue? Maybe you just have to be more tolerant of the noise

  • its better than being hungar deal with it

  • TYT is noisy too

  • You know what's noise pollution? Cenk's sound-bite machine! 😉

  • You could just mandate a muffler be put on the leaf blowers

  • I personally can't sleep if it's too quiet.

  • You mean like the random unnecessary dings we hear on this show sometimes??? Like the annoying Beevis and Butthead laughter and other random bullshit???

  • sound is energy it's not unreasonable to think that constant sound over time could have an effect on bodily functions.

  • Unwanted noise is very angering to me. Whether its a noisy neighbor or a douche in a dodge pickup with no mufflers, I'd love to punch whoever it is in the face. Landscapers are the WORST! if lazy people would mow their own Lawns we wouldn't have this problem

  • WHY CAN'T PEOPLE JUST NOT HAVE KIDS???????!!!!!!!!!!

  • My neighbors make me feel like having a heart attack when they start having a joint bitch fit and it is making me loose sleep for my third shift job which is also bad for my health. F society.

  • leafblowers GONE! lol

  • BREAKING NEWS at FOX:
Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks Announces His Presidential Run in 2020!!
Says leaf blowers are the scourge of the planet, and promises to wipe them out of existence.

  • I work around glass bottles. And its inspection machines. Noise is suppressed by earplugs. Very high noise. Above 100 decimals Sirens, intercoms, and 30 inspection machines. The swing shift is the killer! Stress for swing shift workers are twice as high, than a normal shift. Humans adapt to their surroundings. Can't buy this story.

  • These guys need to visit Delhi for a day. It will make em appreciate murica 10 times more.

  • They seriously tried the leaf blower ban in Palo Alto CA. in the late 90's. All the Mexican gardeners told their clients that instead of 40 dollars a week the price would go to 200 dollars a week or more to cover the extra time to rake the leaves. Guess what all those rich LIBERAL fucks did? They decided to save a few bucks and just deal with the noise because they are just like conservative rich fucks, when it comes to money for blue collar labor they all act like they're poor. No sir, leaf blowers are here to stay.

  • what's with everyone hating on Hasan? 😯 Even you, Ana?

  • City slicker problems don't concern me or my tax dollars.

  • The only "Noise Pollution" I hear is annoying ass people around me……

  • Londoner born and bred, sleep like a baby.

  • My back window is a block away from a highway road. The sound of drag racing ricers is nostalgic at this point.

  • Instead of an outright ban, why not tax the loudest machines. As a society, aren't we supposed to tax what we don't want and subsidize what we do want? Like Nick, the coal country 'fight-for-15' voter said in your other video, "We have to make it easier for them to work with us instead of against us." I think many companies would invent new ways to make machines like leaf blowers or AC units quieter. Electric vehicles of all types are already quieter so that's another reason to migrate the countries rolling stock of vehicles away from fossil fuels.

  • Actually this can be a huge factor in your health. I remember back when I used in that small town in Florida there no airport not to much car traffic .I was really lean and felt energized And I didn't even pay attention to nutrition or exercise. Now since I moved to NYC I got this annoying belly bear I exercise and try to eat healthy. And it's just not going away, or at least if it is then its taking a long time.

  • the FDA should look into dubstep

  • Turn down the dam rap, mexian feista and country music. Your not cool. Your car radaling apart man.

  • a power outage should help.

  • Hmm…..Would Donald Trump be considered unwanted noise? #MakeAmericaQuietAgain

  • I've been convicted 3 times by the scum corrupt Scottish courts, for being harassed and abused by noise polluters (the first ones were also tree murdering and butchering scum) – each time it's been blatant that the noise is really evil and completely unnecessary, and obviously very bad for health. They systematically harass me, and then they arrest me and ruin my life even more for protesting and fighting back against their harassment. This world is run by sick evil cunts and it needs to die.

  • I muted this video and it reduced my stress level.

  • You'll need to get rid of a lot more than them using leaf blowers.

  • CENK! YES, LEAF BLOWERS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!! CENK FOR PRESIDENT ! 😊

  • Humans have destroyed any peace that used to be available on earth with all the damn noise. I guess if you are a billionaire you can get a little quiet by buying your own island somewhere or acres of forest land…. We peasants cannot escape the f—k—g lawn mowers and leaf blowers… Hell on earth!

  • Yep! I've had to purchase custom made ear plugs. It caused me anxiety and restless nights when the traffic increased behind my house. Loud car stereos are horrible at 12AM at night. Leaf blowers….etc.

  • Why must there be a shrieking singer (usually female) on the PA system (or whatever it's called now) while I'm shopping, or in a restaurant, or in a mall store? Hypes you up to shop? No, it doesn't.

  • Electric leaf blowers. No where near as load and just as powerful for a consumer level product.

  • Immigrants by the zillions driving like morons, causing accidents and death – add their noise and ….deport all of them

  • seriously, there are quite a few noises some machinery can do to piss me off, but nothing pisses me off more than the noise the kids in my neighborhood do when they're out playing. I think I'm going to be one of them grumpy old 'get off my lawn' type of dude, I seriously can't stand them…

  • this aint shit i grew up in BayView, and above a gas station haha

  • Basically you're fucked if you live in NYC.

  • what if you like some noise

  • Noise pollution is a Chinese conspiracy to steal our oxygen. SAD!

  • I've been saying this for decades. Way to finally catch up.

  • THANK GOODNESS EARPLUGS WERE INVENTED because I use them everyday

  • i would murder people and their entire families if it was legal

  • I love the sound of silence because it allows you to hear so much more.

  • the irony is that the young turks is actually very loud and invasive. maybe the young turks should take their decibels down so as knot two contribute too noise pollooschon.

  • alex jones is also a massive sauce of unwanted noise

  • One of the most pervasive sources of unwanted noise is dog barking, and it is also one of the most preventable. People, in many cases, protect the noise as if dogs need to make excessive noise. It is bizarre because the only action required is for dog owners to take responsibility for the behavior of their pets! When dogs are taught that it is not okay to bark, whenever, the animal complies because dogs want to please their human. it's a simple way to increase the quality of life for every! Also, why aren't electric mowers and leaf blowers a thing? They are much more quiet, while releasing zero emissions!

  • You don't want noise pollution, don't listen to the Young Turks.

  • Congress passed the noise control act in 1972 to established a national policy to promote a healthy, noise-free environment for all Americans. To enforce the Noise Control Act, the Office of Noise Abatement and Control (ONAC) was created within the EPA. In 1981, the director of ONAC was informed that the Office of Management and Budget, under President Reagan’s order, was eliminating all funding for the ONAC.
President Reagan stripped the ONAC of its funding because of pressure from industries affected by the ONAC‟s noise regulations. The elimination of the federal noise office is responsible, to a significant degree, for the uncontrolled levels of noise pollution in the United States today.
A large percentage of the noise pollution we are bombarded with daily is caused by a culture of noise that is a direct result of industries that promote noisy products like aftermarket exhausts, and mega amplified subwoofer car stereos. This TYT commentary completely ignores the deliberate noise that this culture is creating for the sole purpose of inflating their egos and exercising control of others by forcing noise that they know is causing others to suffer. It is an act of deliberate cruelty and self promotion that is completely preventable by just enforcing muffler laws and nuisance laws. Most importantly, this report does not acknowledge the dismantling of the EPA and the noise control office as the major factor that could have prevented most of this in the first place. The noise control act was written specifically to do research and development for designing products that reduce noise, and to prevent products from being marketed that violate the noise standards. BTW Cenk, those gas powered leaf blowers you are complaining about, would have been banned by the Office of Noise Abatement and Control long ago if Congress hadn't cut funding for the EPA program! Too bad you didn't include that in your superficial report and commentary.

  • YEAH, YEA, GREAT TOPIC.

  • THIS IS A QUOTE FROM SOMEONE ELSE AND MAY BE A LITTLE LONG. MUCH OR MOST NOISE IS WORK THAT IS UNESSENTIAL OR BEING DONE INEFFICIENTLY. OR COULD BE DONE WITH DIFFERENT QUIETER DEVICES IS THE POINT. IN THIS CASE WE'RE TALKING MOWING.

Let me talk about what My little town of Old Tappan, New Jersey has become in the 21st Century. A generation ago it was quiet and peaceful. Today it’s become Right Wing Authoritarian Trump For President Upper Crust ElitistVille.
Lawn service alone is a joke for these Masters.
It’s like something out of The Three Stooges.
Ever hear of buying a cannon to swat a fly? Here’s the real-life story…
Neighbors who have 12’x12′ front lawns (some slightly more, some slightly less) hiring professional landscapers to manicure their lawns every week. A 10-minute job easily done with a push mower maybe once or twice a month becomes a noisy, weekly Event.
It’s a team of 3 to 6 people on average. They park their trailer on the side of the road, set up cones, and leap out with their wonderfully colorful neon yellow vests.
(This indicates they’re Hired Working Class as opposed to vandals or vagrants–Very Important in Modern America! Otherwise the police would be called!)
They strap on noisy diesel-powered backpack gear to blow a handful of leaves around. One following the other so not one leaf is missed. This is very important. Despite the fact that after they leave a gust of wind picks up and blows the leaves they’ve spent the past hour blowing right back where they originally were!
The other stooge gets out a ride-around lawn mower nearly the size of a volkswagon.
It nearly covers parts of peoples’ lawns in itself.
He mounts it and drives around and around and around on the grass for an hour or so until he knows its cut. There might even be a second guy behind him riding a backup mower Just In Case a few strands are missed.
All this can go on for a couple hours time.
It’s Noisy. It’s annoying. It burns up gasoline. It pumps fumes around.
The end result lawn also incorporates lots of fertilizers, insecticides–poisons–into the non-natural green grass which needs also to be watered constantly. It proves nothing but death. Pets develop cancer if they spend time on these fields. It kills wildlife. It’s only function is to Prove Something to those who see it. Idiot American are programmed to believe that it represents prosperity, cleanliness, and who-knows-what-else. To me it’s a massive drain on resources and a waste of money. Even more so if the lawn is located in drought regions where water is far better spent elsewhere. Like on crops.

They have this done because their neighbor does it and his neighbor does it and his neighbor does it. Leading all the way back to the first McMansion the block.
The logic is simple: “If our neighbor can afford to have professional lawn service then so can we. If they can have it done once a week then so can we.” In other words, it’s all about status not practicality.
They would not be caught dead performing the work of Peasants. Simple as that.
Rather, they are playing the role of English lords.
The manicured lawn is an extension of their McMansion, which is also a parallel extension of their luxury car collection (Always parked outdoors, never garaged!), and in turn is a materialistic extension of their tiny penises. They are, after all, White folks.
21st Century Americans only care about image not substance; about keeping up with the s5 Comments

  • Leaf blowers are dumb. Pick up a damn rake and get some exercise.

  • Imagine if cities had ordinances requiring citizens and especially landscaping contractors to use electric lawnmowers to dramatically reduce the noise pollution and, not incidentally, carbon footprint… Please support the work of groups like Noise Pollution Clearinghouse and Noise-Free America.
