Video: Heavy rain before sun returns

CINDY: AND A GOOD FRIDAY TO YOU. I’M METEOROLOGIST CINDY
FITZGIBBON. IT HAS BEEN A WET 24 HOURS FOR
SURE. JUST SINCE MIDNIGHT, LOOK AT THE
RAIN THAT HAS FALLEN. HERE ALONG THE SOUTH COAST, THE
CAPE AND THE ISLANDS, ONE TO TWO
INCHES AND WE ARE NOT DONE YET. THERE ARE FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS
UP ‘TIL 10:45 THIS MORNING ON
THE CAPE AND ESPECIALLY MARTHA’S
VINEYARD. BUT NANTUCKET EXPECTING SOME
VERY HEAVY RAINFALL AS WELL. RAINFALL TOTALS HERE COULD
APPROACH FOUR, MAYBE EVEN FIVE
INCHES. THIS IS ALL ASSOCIATED WITH WHAT
IS LEFT OF MICHAEL, NOW A
POST-TROPICAL STORM, STILL WITH
WINDS OF 65 MILES PER HOUR, BUT
IT IS MAKING ITS CLOSEST PASS TO
US GOING BY CLOSE TO 200 MILES SOUTHEAST OF NANTUCKET THIS
MORNING, AND THEN IT WILL
CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AWAY FROM
OUR AREA THIS AFTERNOON. SO WITH IT COMING BY WE’RE
GETTING NOT ONLY SOME HEAVY RAIN
THIS MORNING, BUT THERE WILL BE
A PERIOD OF GUSTY WINDS AS WELL. THE WINDS ARE GOING TO PICK UP
HERE LATER THIS MORNING INTO THE
EARLY AFTERNOON OUT OF THE NORTH
AND NORTHWEST AND THEY COULD
GUST 35 TO 45 MILES PER HOUR
HERE IN SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS. AND THAT MAY BE ENOUGH FOR SOME
LOCALIZED TREE DAMAGE. SO WE’LL WATCH FOR THAT HERE
THROUGH THE MORNING. YOU CAN SEE NOT ONLY HEAVY RAIN
AND A COUPLE OF BANDS HERE, BUT
EVEN SOME THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
SHOWING UP ALONG THE OUTER CAPE
AND NANTUCKET. THIS IS THAT VERY HEAVY RAINFALL
ASSOCIATED WITH MICHAEL, AND YOU
CAN SEE THAT IS GOING TO LINGER
ON THE CAPE AND NANTUCKET
THROUGH ABOUT LATE MORNING OR
SO, BUT BY LUNCHTIME, THERE IT GOES, AND WE ARE DRYING OUT
QUICKLY AND THE CLOUDS ARE GOING
TO BREAK FOR SUNSHINE. BY NOONTIME IN THE BOSTON AREA,
SKIES WILL BRIGHTEN. THE WIND WILL BE PICKING UP OUT
OF THE NORTHWEST, SUSTAINED 15,
20 MILES PER HOUR, GUSTING
HIGHER. IT WILL COME INTO THE LOWER 60’S
IN MOST AREAS BUT A LITTLE
COOLER BACK THROUGH THE
WORCESTER HILLS AND WITH THAT
WIND GOING IT WILL FEEL A LITTLE
BIT CHILLIER THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. TONIGHT WE’LL BE DOWN IN THE
40’S, BUT THE CLOUDS INCREASE
OVERNIGHT, AND TOMORROW MORNING
THERE MAY BE A FEW SHOWERS. THEY’LL BE LIGHT. IT’S A LITTLE DISTURBANCE
WORKING TOWARD US. DOESN’T HAVE A LOT OF MOISTURE
WITH US. FIRST THING SATURDAY MORNING, A
PERIOD OF LATE RAIN AND IT’S
GONE BY THE AFTERNOON AND HIGH
PRESSURE IS SETTLING IN. IT’S GOING TO BE A CHILLY SUNDAY
MORNING. HERE’S A CLOSER LOOK AT THE
RAINFALL ON SATURDAY. WE’LL STOP IT AT 8:00 IN THE
MORNING. YOU CAN SEE HOW VERY LIGHT IT
IS. IT DOES LINGER FOR A FEW HOURS. BY LUNCHTIME MOST OF THE RAIN IS
DRYING UP. CLOUDS ARE STILL LINGERING. DURING THE AFTERNOON, THE CLOUDS
DISSIPATE AND THE SKIES ARE
GOING TO BRIGHTEN UP. SO WE WILL BRIGHTEN THINGS UP
LATER ON THE DAY ON SATURDAY. IF YOU ARE HEADED TO FENWAY ON
SATURDAY NIGHT, SKIES WILL BE
CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY, BUT LOOK
AT THE TEMPERATURES BY THE LATE
INNINGS DOWN IN THE 40’S, SO
MAKE SURE YOU’RE BUNDLED UP, AND THOSE TEMPERATURES KEEP FALLING. BY SUNDAY MORNING, WE’RE GOING
TO BE DOWN IN THE 30’S. THE SUBURBS LIKELY GOING TO SEE
SOME FROST. BE PREPARED FOR THAT. THEN IT’S JUST A COOLER PATTERN
OVERALL AS WE GO INTO NEXT WEEK. A LITTLE FRONT WILL COME THROUGH
MONDAY. MONDAY NIGHT IT COULD BRING A
PERIOD OF SHOWERS. BEHIND IT, THE COOLEST AIR WE’VE
SEEN THIS SEASON. TEMPERATURES AT OR BELOW AVERAGE
WITH THIS NORTHWESTERLY DIP IN
THE JET STREAM. WE’LL SEE AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF
HIGH TEMPERATU
