Welcome to Environmental Science

Hello,
Welcome to Environmental Science. I am Dr. Stine and I will be your instructor this semester,
and I would like to take a little time to introduce myself and the class to you. I have been conducting research and teaching
environmental science since the 1980s. One of the things I really like about the class
is that there are always issues that keep arising that affect all of us on a daily basis. I have a background in Forestry, and I teach
biology, botany, and environmental science at North Florida Community College and I teach forestry
online for the American Public University System. In my spare time, my wife and I try
to go cave diving as often as possible. There is a good chance that you might run into me
at Madison Blues Springs State park on a weekend. One of the things I really like about online
classes is the opportunity I have to interact with all of my students through activities
like discussions. Another great aspect for online classes is
that you can work on your class anywhere and anytime that is convenient for you. This flexibility does how ever place greater
responsibility on your part to keep up with the lessons and the due dates. But rest assured
that I am here to help you with the material and any problems that you may have with the
class. Outside of my scheduled on campus office hours,
the best way to reach me is by email. My goal is to always try to respond within 24 hours.
Normally, I will be much quicker. Please take a few minutes to look around the
D2L site for this class. Pay attention to the content area where you will find lesson
plans, lectures, and important handouts, like the syllabus. Make sure you download and read the syllabus
and pay attention to how various assignments will be graded, and my expectations of your
level of participation in the class. Questions from the syllabus will be on the first quiz. I hope you enjoy the class, and be sure to
contact me anytime you have a question. Good luck and I hope you have a good semester.
